Terrorists in Chad

The US Department of State reports that the security situation in Chad has steadily improved since an effective peace agreement was reached between Sudan and Chad in early 2010, however the security environment could deteriorate unexpectedly, particularly in eastern Chad and border areas, in light of the recent conflict in neighboring Central African Republic.

There are violent extremist organizations in the region. Incidents of murder, robbery and carjacking at gunpoint have been reported throughout the country and recently in N’Djamena. Robbery victims have been beaten or killed. Violence is occasionally associated with car accidents that have caused injury to Chadian nationals. Law enforcement and military personnel have been implicated in violent crime.
