Online, a new guide for the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, “Definitive Saint Lucia” (2013, Definitive World Guides, $8.78), is available on the Amazon Kindle Store and the Apple iBookstore. The 158-page guide offers sections on the island, itself, where to stay, local food and drink and what to do plus five maps.

The guide series also includes “Definitive Barbados” (2012, 213 pp., $11.09).

The FIFA World Cup Brazil — organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football (soccer) Association — will be held June 12-July 13, 2014, at venues in various Brazilian cities, with the penultimate game in the capital, Brasília, and the final game in São Paulo. When details about tickets are announced, they will appear on FIFA’s website.

The eighth annual International Garden Show Hamburg is taking place April 26-Oct. 13, 2013, on a 200-acre site in Wilhelmsburg, a 10-minute train ride from Hamburg*, Germany. The 3-mile main route of the show winds through six themed regions, such as World of Water, World of Nature and World of Religion.

The US Congress passed a law requiring that by June 1, 2013, all full-body scanners used in US airports must produce only a generic outline instead of an image of a naked body. 

The maker of one of the two types of full-body scanners is unable to meet that deadline, so the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been removing 250 backscatter x-ray scanners from the 30 airports where they were used and replacing them with millimeter wave scanners.
