Florence Greeters

Just FYI --- Info on The Global Greeter Program.........

I have asked for help from the Global Greeter program (an international organization) in Kyoto (to do the Philosophers Walk), Madrid, Buenos Aires (visiting gardens), Bilbao (helped me three different times) and now Florence. The organization in Florence is just a few weeks old, and the number of “Greeters” available is small -- just about 10, but they were able to meet and help me on the day I wanted.

I like to think of the Greeters not as tour guides, but as friends I haven’t met yet. With no exceptions, each is friendly, helpful, love their cities and want to share that enthusiasm with you. In addition to walking tours, I usually need help with specific things like getting a local sim card, buying adapters, etc. And these friendly and helpful locals know the best places to get things like this done.

In this last instance, Paolo (one of the organizers of the Florence Greeters program) not only gave me a walking tour of the historic area (which was near my hotel) taking me thru passageways in historic buildings, down interesting side streets/alleyways that only locals know about, and talked to me about Florentine traditions. He also marked my map with other places I might want to visit on my own.

Global Greeters Network: www.globalgreeternetwork.info

Florence Greeters: http://florence.greeters.info/index.php?id=339
