Air India's Battery Police

After reading the article in the July Boarding Pass describing Air India's new policy of confiscating spare batteries, as well as the apparent contradiction between that policy and established practice of all other air carriers, we were quite disenchanted with the carrier. That, coupled with Editor Tykol's comments that he had asked both the carrier and the Indian Responsible Government Agency for comment, and to date has received either a runaround, or no response, leads us to have serious concerns about traveling Air India. We are especially concerned because we have a trip to Nepal booked for late 2013, and may very well be booked on Air India. We'd like to know if anyone has had any recent experiences with Air India's Battery Police?
