From the July 2012 issue.
A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Italy’s northern region of Emilia-Romagna on May 20, followed by a 5.8 on May 29. At least 24 people were killed and more than 14,000 became homeless as the quakes damaged many buildings and destroyed some churches and historic buildings.
Mirandola, Medolla and Cavezzo were closest to the epicenter, 22 miles north of Bologna.
